Max power achieve at what boost: 290hp/215kw

 

its laggy as f**k and the power figures low, but its nuts once on boost which to me is a prime example of a power figure being nothing more than a meaningless number. definitely a funny turbo, the guy i bought it off didnt make much power with it either but said it was crazy once on boost aswell

A 3071 is good for way more than that, I'd be looking at things other than the turbo.

 

I have an S15 Spec R GT

GTX3071 turbo with a .82 rear housing

264/264 BC cams with Tomei cam gears

Nismo 740cc injectors

Walbro fuel pump

Powertune manifold with a turbo smart 50mm external waste gate

Running 20 psi comes on boost at about 4200 rpm

Makes 307kw and 770nm of torque

 

Found that the .82 housing is more responsive than a .63 on this set up, awesome little turbo's

^^ No way your car is putting out 770nm of torque bro. V8's dont even do that. 500nm is about as much as an SR can possibly do with its small 2.0L displacement.

 

But yes 215rwkw is WAY to low for a 3071r. First thing I'd be checking is whether or not I had a blocked cat.

You have read it wrong. The ATR28SS1 Have beat the Garrett 3071 in both power and response.

If I read correctly the ATR had a .86 housing and the Garrett had a .64? I see further down you have changed it but at the time of the comparison

 

Doesn't really make a fair comparison as in some cases the bigger housings will flow more efficiently, causing the turbo to be more responsive, if this is the case with this car then the sheer fact of it having a different housing size can affect spool time also. And before anyone gets on me about bigger housings 100% of the time being laggier I'l post up my sheet when I went from a .63 on a GTX3071 to a .82

 

The red line is a .82

 

And by the looks of your graph isn't the 3071 making roughly the same power with a smaller housing? So wouldn't making them both the same size housing make it a fairer comparison? Not trying to have a go just asking a question :)

Myself and Johnnilicte have recently taken it upon ourselves to scour through forums and the web to compile a comprehensive database of power setups that's easily searchable based on certain criteria.

Further development into the ATR28SS Alpha Series. This is a base line for CBB SS2 Alpha version, Vnt is not current engaged. Final result of 302rwkws on 24psi P98 fuel.

 

Note: Dyno ramp sitting is based on 14 secs with 1 sec for every 500RPM. You can use base line from Garrett GT2871R below to determine the type of response this turbocharger might be generating on your car.

Its currently making 190rwkws and 21psi @ 4000RPM. It drives pretty good the way it is. The goal would be matching the GT2871 curve without losing any top end.

Max power achieve at what boost: 255.8 rwkw @ 6000 RPM on E85 with 18 PSI dropping to 16 PSI. Outside tempreture was 32 degrees C so on a cold day would have cleared well over 260 rwkw+.

 

Yes it's a low RPM for max power and it still made 250 rwkw at 6500 RPM but drops too much boost. I'm blaming this to either the stock actuator, high flow cat or the rear housing just being too small to flow much more. I'd like to try again on a cold day without the large high flow cat as a test to see if it can hold 18 PSI. Wouldn't run anymore boost as it is a stock head gasket. Pushing 20 PSI to have it drop to 18 PSI would be as far as I'd like to go with a slight expectancy the head gasket fails.

If I didn't go this it would be a proper gtx30 series matching manifold or another brand altogether.

I've been against my bro in a 342 rwkw 6L VE when I was running 230 rwkw and were fairly even until...lets say higher speeds.

 

I'd say it's a happy dyno. Not hating the result man and don't think that I am, just being realistic. The GT2860RS esepcially in a 0.64 just won't flow that much air to produce that power. The maximum it will flow is 16 PSI with 36 lbs/min of air. 36 x 9 on E85 will give you an approx rwhp of 324 rwhp, so it's more like 235 rwkw - 240 rwkw (IF LUCKY) before it's surging off the map. The tuner should drop the boost, it's off the chart entirely and heating up everything unneccesarily with the potential of a prematurely blown turbo.

 

Put it this way, I'm at 255.8 rwkw and maxing out the poor little A/R 0.64 on my GTX2863R running E85 now at 16.5 PSI (see above). It's very snappy even with Hankook RS3 Z223 tyres. It steps out in 1st gear in a striaght line with all the strut bracing, underbracing, decent coilovers, links, etc. It is actually difficult to break traction in a straight line in any other gear besides first and squirms nicely in 2nd at max torque. If yours pretty much ticks those boxes then you've somehow overcome Garrett's physics and the dyno is correct :).

 

IMO you should be up there with 350rwkw+ V8s / 6Ts though. The 315 / 320 rwkw V8s should struggle to keep up with you.

I'm hearing all of what you're saying :)

Mostly I'm just pretty happy with how it performs.

 

When I had it on 20psi, straight line was perfect. Do a few runs - all good,

Try to pedal on and off in a slide? No chance huge spike 25+ psi. ( probably how i set up the boost )

 

I was reluctant to say that I beat my friends in a race but tbh my car is quicker ( hard to say as i was behind and started gaining a bit )

I run it on 10-13psi external gate now and it seems happier. Other wise it would squeel and start overboosting

 

Wouldn't buy this turbo again but rate it far better than a 2871r .64 without cams on stock engine

 

Thanks for the info, hopefully get to take on a few quick cars at powercruise or something to get an idea of how it really goes.

Blitz cooler, haltech platinum pro plugin.

Type of turbo: GTX3076

Rear Exhaust housing: .63

When does vehicle begin boost: around 3000rpm

Does the vehicle have Cams? poncams

What brand: tomei

What lift/duration etc: 256/256 11.5

Max power achieve at what boost: 256atw @17.5psi

Size of engine: 2.0T

Modifications to the car: 3" TBE, 100 cell metal cat, KLS front mount, ARP headstuds, 1.2 MLS HG, 740cc Nismo, Nistune, RB25 gearbox with 4.1 diff, Methanol injection, Z32 AFM, Walbro 255, BC valve springs, turbosmart actuator 18psi springs.

When does vehicle reach full boost and what PSI: 4500 @ 21psi

Modifications to the car: gktech dump pipe, xforce hiflow cat, 3" Ebay special cat back, gktech return flow inter-cooler with custom piping, turbotech mbc, pod, blocked bleed hole in stock recirc valve, Nismo 555cc injectors, Z32 AFM, Nistune

Type of turbo: ADM T28

When does vehicle begin boost: around 2000rpm

When does vehicle reach full boost and what PSI: 3300 14 psi

Does the vehicle have Cams? no

What lift/duration etc:

Max power achieve at what boost: 200.4 rwkw @ ~ 14 psi
